Lancaster Quernmore knockout winners
Lancaster historian Terry Ainsworth sent in this picture of Quernmore knockout winners.
Ray “Knocker” Knowles featured in every football knockout competition in the area and here we can see his successful team winning the Quernmore knockout.
From left to right they are: - Ralph Dearden, Dennis Smith, Brian Capper, Ray Knowles and Cyril King. Dennis Smith played for Dry Dock United under manager Jimmy Brown while Cyril King featured for the Royal Albert Hospital and of course Brian Capper spent his Saturday afternoons on Christie Park playing for Morecambe. It seems that these five lads picked up their silverware and then drove to Gressingham to complete a “daily double” by winning that knockout as well.
