Lancaster law firm opens doors to budding solicitors

Between 20 and 30 pupils from Years 11 and 12 of local schools will be invited to visit JWK’s Lancaster office once each month.

During each visit they will hear from some of JWK’s 23 lawyers, learning about the different areas of specialisation and looking at the type of work they cover. There will even be the opportunity for them to put their knowledge into practice, working on their own briefs.

George Wilson, who recently joined the firm as a trainee solicitor and is an ex-pupil of Lancaster Royal Grammar School, will be coordinating the new initiative.

George said: “I first became interested in becoming a lawyer when I was about 16 years of age. I approached JWK Solicitors and was lucky to attend both their Morecambe and Lancaster offices for work experience. I enjoyed the huge variety of work with its constant challenges and was grateful for all the help and encouragement JWK gave me.

“I would have jumped at the chance to be part of a scheme like the JWK’s Junior Law Society, the initiative we are launching in March this year. I am looking forward to working with the next generation of young law students and helping them in any way I can.”

Jennifer Pardoe, head of Sixth Form at Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School, said: “This is an amazing opportunity and we are extremely grateful to JWK for investing in local pupils. Many of our girls are interested in a career in law and in fact there are several past pupils currently working at JWK.”
