Lancaster hospital staff are health heroes

Lancaster hospital staff were recognised at a glittering awards ceremony celebrating the trust's Health Heroes.

Nadine Parsons and Kate Artingstoll, nurses at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI) were joint winners for the Bright Ideas award, sharing the prize with the Trauma Audit and Research Network Team.

Warren Cross, a clinical support worker at the RLI children’s ward took home the Unsung Hero award.

Star of the Year went to Angela Richardson, a clinical leader for radiology at the RLI and Joseph McAleer, a core trainee two - acute surgical snit at the RLI, was awarded Clinician of the Year.

These were just some of shining stars from across University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT) were who were celebrated.

Winners were announced in ten categories during the ceremony at the Abbey House Hotel in Barrow, in recognition of the staff, volunteers, governors and fundraisers across the trust’s five hospitals.

Some of the awards honoured those on the front line of hospital life, with others highlighting the efforts of those hard at work behind the scenes.

Jackie Daniel, Chief Executive, UHMBT, said: “These awards are always the highlight of the year for me as they allow us to celebrate the achievements of all our staff, governors, volunteers and fundraisers.

“Most of the people shortlisted didn’t think that they were doing anything extraordinary to deserve an award but when we heard the reasons why they were nominated, it was very clear to us all why they were there.

“The sense of pride in the room was contagious.

“Well done to everyone who was nominated, regardless of whether or not they received the winner’s award.”

Other winners included Debbie Muldoon-Smith, ward manager - Ward 5 at Furness General Hospital (FGH), who won Leading by Example award, Dr Amit Kochhar, associate specialist for ENT for the Everybody Counts award, Lynnsey Willcox, a specialist nurse for Gynaecology/Oncology at FGH took home the Living Our Values award, Millom Health Action Group at Better With You award, Ward 2 and Parish Nurse Team won the Building Relationships award, Deborah Ashdown, clinical support worker at WGH won the Chief Executive’s award.
