Lancaster Castle A-Wing DJ events scrapped for 2016

Organisers Skiddle said that “all good things must come to an end” after announcing that they would be programming no further DJ events within the former prison wing.

The shows, which started in May 2014, have featured performances from world renowned DJs like Derrick Carter, James Zabiela, Carl Craig, Mark Knight and High Contrast, and have proved to be highlight events on Lancaster’s music calendar.

But they have also caused controversy with residents living near to the castle, who have complained about noise issues.

A spokesman for Skiddle said: “When we started out we knew we had something special, and when something is so special it is always going to have to end.

“What we did was take a small piece of a big castle, a castle that is brimmed full of history and make our own history in it, whether that be the microphone ramblings of Derrick Carter, the outrageous opening party with Rob da Bank or the legendary fancy dress at the Halloween Events, we loved every single moment in that place.

“We would just like to say a massive thank you to the Duchy of Lancaster for letting us be part of their history, and massive thank you to all the people that ever helped us make our dreams come true.”

Debbie Garrity, from the Duchy of Lancaster, said: “It’s been great working with Skiddle, and we’ve listened to local residents and received approaches from other people wanting to do more in A-Wing.

“Due to the restoration programme of works, our space is limited, our primary space is A-Wing, and it’s difficult to manage all of the different types of events that we’re trying to put on there to cater for a wide cross section of the general public.

“For us it’s not a never again, but we don’t have anything for 2016.”
