Dad-of-three Jason has been a Bowie fan since the age of four and was shocked, like most of the nation, when the rock star died of cancer.

Jason said: “I was at home, just a normal Monday morning getting the children ready for school when we heard it on Radio 2. The first thing I thought was “oh he kept that quiet,” quite a lot of celebrities who have passed away recently did keep their illnesses to themselves and I think it was because they didn’t want the media to know.

“Some of Bowie’s closest friends didn’t even know, so it was quite a shock especially as he just released new material.”

Growing up Jason was introduced to Bowie on Top of the Pops and explains his music videos fascinated him and sparked his 25-years of passion for music.

The 45-year-old said: “I heard all these songs but nothing compared to when I saw Bowie on TV. My dad liked all the flamboyant artists, like Freddie Mercury, Elton John, Rolling Stones and David Bowie, he would point them out to me.

“For me Bowie was fascinating to watch. I thought he was a spaceman from the future, I loved sci-fi, I thought he looked like an alien when I was watching Starman.

“Every artist has an influence, like some bands sound like the Beatles but when you look at Bowie, he was original.”

Jason will be performing at the Globe Arena, Morecambe Football Club, with DJ Steve Middlebrough on Friday February 5 at 8pm.
