Lancaster illustrator Jack Knight was thrilled when a cartoon he'd created got the seal of approval from Boy George and his team at The Voice.

Jack was hired by an online greetings card company to create cartoon portraits of each of the twelve performers chosen by the BBC1 show’s newest judge as well as a cartoon of the Culture Club singer himself.

This week, producers from The Voice head to Lancaster to scout for talent for next year’s series.

An event is taking place at The Penny Bank pub on Thursday evening, March 10, where hopeful singers will get the chance to make their voices heard.

Jack, who is also resident cartoonist for The Visitor’s sister paper the Lancaster Guardian, was given just one day to complete the work.

He said: “With a deadline of just one day to complete all 13 images, the pressure was certainly on.

“After ten hours of staring at the contestants, I almost feel like I know them!”

Jack is planning on keeping an eye on how Team George get on in the competition and hopes to create a cartoon of the finalists as the show nears its climax.

The Voice is currently in its fifth series and airs on BBC One on Saturday evenings.

Boy George has now started following Jack on Twitter after ‘liking’ the cartoon, and the official BBC Twitter account for The Voice said that the picture was ‘(Boy) Georgeous’.

The event at The Penny Bank starts at 7.30pm and works on a first come, first served basis. Singers should turn up with an instrument or backing track.
