Residents across the district concerned about the plight of refugees in Calais are joining together to help send aid.

Big Yellow Self Storage in Northgate on White Lund has agreed to take in donations, and a team of people with suitable transport is now being sought to help deliver the items to a drop-off point in London on October 4.

Items such as tents, covers, blankets, sleeping bags, travel bags and tarpaulin are desperately needed, along with clothing such as jackets (small and medium), shoes (size 42-46), socks, tracksuit trousers, jeans (waist 28-32), wool hats and pants.

In addition, practical items such as candles, soap, shampoo, toothpaste and brushes and pots and pans are required.

Please look out these items and we will post details of when to drop things off at Big Yellow Self Storage on our websites and in next week’s paper.

Anyone who can help should email HelpingHandsforCalais@gmail.com. A Facebook page of the same name is also being set up.
