Lancaster and District Samaritans Shop in Lancaster to reopen after flood damage

Lancaster MP Cat Smith will officially reopen the shop next Tuesday, August 16.

The shop, in Damside Street, is the charity’s main source of funding and, essentially, pays to keep the Samaritans branch running to takes calls and offer emotional support to people in distress.

Volunteers are now are urgently needed to allow the shop to be staffed full-time once it reopens.

Jenny Dighton, director of Lancaster and District Samaritans, said: “We’re delighted that after eight months of hard work and the support of many people, the shop will be reopening.

“It’s all completely new stock so we’d encourage everyone to come and support us after this difficult time, or to donate pre-loved good to the shop.

“In addition, if you can spare just a few hours a week to volunteer to help keep the shop open, we really need all the help we can get.”

Anyone in distress can talk to Samaritans any time they like, in their own way and off the record, about whatever is getting to them.
