Chris Glaba, one of the organisers at A Wing, has been diagnosed with cancer at 26-years-old and has been given just 18 months to live.

The Hacienda Classical event on May 8 at Williamson Park will be a “lasting legacy” to Chris.

Richard Dyer, the man behind A Wing and Skiddle, one of the UK’s largest and most successful event ticketing websites, said the event will be “extra special” for everyone.

He said: “This is Chris’s legacy and we want to put on this show for him, one that he will be proud of, we will be all be thinking of him so it will be a very emotional night.

“We talked at length about cancelling the show, but it quickly became clear to us that if we did that then cancer really would have won. We don’t know how long we have Chris left in our life for. Yet if we give up on the things we love then we might as well give up altogether. None of us want that.”

The stage, which will sit at the bottom of the Ashton Memorial, will welcome DJs Mike Pickering, Graeme Park, Peter Hook, Tom Wainwright and Russell Marland, together with the Manchester Camerata. Known for their world class venues, A Wing has built a solid reputation over the years.

Approximately 2,500 tickets have been sold. The stage will look out onto the playground and the views across Morecambe Bay. The Williamson Park cafe will act as VIP area and the area around the Memorial will also house a bar, eateries and toilets. Donations will be collected on the night for Macmillan Cancer Support who have supported Chris and his family. Tickets for the 18+ event are £35 available at http://haciendaclassical.co.uk/.
