FAMILIES living in the Lancaster postcode area LA2 are in one of the top three places in England and Wales to bring up children according to a new survey.
The area, which includes Galgate, Ellel, Quernmore, Halton, Brookhouse, Hest Bank, Slyne, Caton, Claughton, Cockerham, Gressingham, Hornby, Tatham, Wray and Bentham, is ranked third, just behind postcodes in Devon and Somerset.
The table is based on an analysis of factors including crime rates, earnings, house prices and access to good schools.
The Family Friendly Hotspots Report, compiled by children’s savings provider Family Investments, initially listed Galgate as third in the table, but the Lancaster Guardian discovered that the results covered the whole LA2 postcode area.
Galgate was used to represent the postcode area, despite the busy A6 running through the heart of it, causing traffic gridlock at peak times.
The centre of the village has been made a council Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) in a bid to tackle high levels of nitrogen dioxide caused by exhaust emissions, which can have serious implications for child health.
