JOB losses are looming at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary after the trust which runs the hospital received worse than expected news on its funding for the year ahead.

The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT) faces having to find savings of at least £15m in the year from April after receiving details of its draft tariff – the amount it will be paid for the services it delivers.

This prompted chief executive Tony Halsall to write to trust staff warning them of trouble ahead.

He writes: “By any stretch of the imagination, this is a huge challenge. ‘Do nothing’ is not an option.
