Hurricane Joaquin could hit Lancashire as wet windy weather returns

High pressure last week meant warm weather and clear skies, but forecasters say that is set to change.

The North West is today in line for showers or longer spells of rain.

Experts say the rain will clear towards the end of the week, but it will feel much fresher and cooler.

Dean Hall, from the Met Office said: “All changes this week with low pressure weather, showers, thunder and breezy in parts.

“Certainly a contrast to what we have been used to in the last few weeks.

“The wet weather will clear on Wednesday leaving some fine, dry conditions for Thursday and there is the risk of mist, fog and perhaps a bit of frost.”

And Mr Hall warned that although it was early to say for sure, the UK could be hit by the back-end of the hurricane at the weekend.

He said: “There’s a lot of uncertainty surrounding this weekend with the possibility of Hurricane Joaquin coming in. There’s the potential of it being quite wet and windy throughout.”

Hurricane Joaquin has hit America, Barbados and Bermuda, destroying homes and residences. Rescuers were looking for a US cargo ship with 33 people on-board which went missing during the storm.
