Global real estate firm Hines have been working on the project, named Caton Court, since summer 2017.

The buildings, in Back Caton Road, will include a roof level lounge, a study library, gym and a cinema space, and once complete will be the biggest student development in the city by some way.

Tom Rix, director of operations at Aparto, the operator of Caton Court, said: “The development is progressing well and is on schedule to welcome our first students for the beginning of the 2019/20 academic year in September 2019.

“We currently have between 50-60 workers on site, 45 per cent of these workers are from the local area.

“In keeping with the traditions of the city centre we are also using Ashlar stone which has historically been the stone of choice for the city.

“We are keen to develop partnerships with local businesses and embed ourselves into the community.

“We will shortly be hiring a marketing assistant to promote our show flat, which will be launched in January 2019 and we look forward to bringing a new vision for student living to the city.”

Alex Knapp, Hines managing director, said in 2016 that the scheme would act as a catalyst for regeneration, and as a location for student development, the appeal of Lancaster is “very compelling”.
