Pictures taken in cemeteries explore how we commemorate our loved ones in a new photographic exhibition.

Darren Andrews’ collection, Beloved, will be on show at Lancaster City Museum from Saturday January 11.

Heather Dowler, Lancashire County Council’s museum manager at Lancaster, said: “The photographs show a wide variety of headstones, statues and personal memorials and the way time has affected them.

“Darren has used a digital camera to capture these images in exceptionally sharp focus, and their colours and clarity are very intense.”

Based in Lancaster, Darren has been a professional photographer and filmmaker for 25 years.

During his career, he has worked for national and local newspapers – including the Lancaster Guardian – and magazines, and now specialises in freelance assignments.

He has exhibited at galleries throughout the UK including two solo shows in London, and has work held in the Royal Photographic Society archive.

The exhibition runs until April 26 and entry is free.
