Morecambe Coastguard was called out on Monday evening to a report of lights seen in the bay by fishermen near the harbour.
The experienced fishermen saw what was believed to be a quad bike on the beach.
When the team arrived on scene they could see lights in the bay and sometimes brighter torches could be seen shining. With the tide well on its way in the team became concerned that any people out on the sandbank could be cut off.
The RNLI hovercraft was launched but the lights were from five small fishing vessels and everyone was safe.
