Tuesday was the hottest day in Lancaster since July 2006.
The weather team at Lancaster University said temperatures rose to 27.7 degrees celsius (81.86 degrees fahrenheit) with 10.1 hours of sunshine.
Temperatures dropped to 15 degrees at night.
Today could turn out to be even hotter. At noon on Wednesday, unofficial figures showed temperatures soaring to 31 degrees celsius (87.8 degrees fahrenheit).
