Patients at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary will be able to listen to a broader range of programmes after the hospital’s radio station received a major cash windfall.

Bay Trust Radio, which also serves Furness General Hospital in Barrow and Kendal’s Westmorland General, has been awarded £8,700 from the Big Lottery Fund.

It will fund specialist Comrex Access equipment, which will allow the volunteer-run operation to broadcast shows live on location from events across North Lancashire and South Cumbria using 3G, 4G and wi-fi technology.

John Williamson, BTR president and station manager, said “We are excited that over the coming months we can be broadcasting from events around the county. If anyone has an event they would like us to attend, please email” Anyone interested in joining the charity can call 01539 79542.
