Hornby High set to re-open

THE former Hornby High School looks set to re-open - as a religious ‘free school’.

Education Secretary Michael Gove has given the go ahead for the Bretheren Christian Fellowship to take over the building under the government’s ‘Free School’ initiative.

Hornby High was closed in 2009 by Lancashire County Council amid falling rolls and below-par test results.

Morecambe and Lunesdale MP, David Morris, had called for the decision to be reviewed after his Conservative colleagues were elected to County Hall in June 2009, but by then it was too late.

Mr Morris said: “I am delighted that Hornby will re-open its doors. In my opinion the school should never have closed. Once again young people will be able to be educated at Hornby.”
