Heysham to M6 link road work ‘suspended’ in Lancaster

Engineers have suspended part of their work on the Heysham to M6 link road due to high levels of traffic.

Road builders Costain decided to stop work on Caton Road in Lancaster due to traffic congestion, which they said had been caused by the creation of the new super-road.

Costain tweeted on Wednesday: “Due to the recent traffic problems on Caton Rd, due to our works, we have decided to suspend this work. All lanes will be open tomorrow.”

Motorists have complained all week about tailbacks between Heysham and Junction 34 of the M6 near Caton Road.

The new road will link the Heysham bypass to Junction 34 of the M6. Work began in 2014 and is due to be fully completed in summer 2016.
