Heysham artist Patricia Haskey recently unveiled a commissioned painting at the launch of the new EDF Energy Visitor Centre in Heysham.
Heysham 1 and 2 power stations have just celebrated their 30 year and 25 year anniversaries respectively and to mark these special occasions, EDF Energy approached Lancaster’s Gallery 23 to commission an original painting by Patricia.
Patricia is a permanent exhibitor at Arteria with Gallery 23, in Brock Street.
The piece depicts not only the power stations themselves, but also other key landmarks from the Lancaster, Morecambe and Heysham area.
It was a project that held particular resonance for Patricia as she not only lives in Heysham, but has spent many years studying the area through her work.
The painting now hangs in pride of place in the impressive new visitor centre, which opened its doors on July 27.
The site offers an insight into the operations at the power stations and an education into nuclear energy itself.
It was a proud moment for Patricia and the gallery, with great feedback on what was a complex and highly skilled piece of work.
Alan Oulton, station director at Heysham 2, said: “We are were very impressed with Patricia’s work, so much so that we also had 1000 smaller reprints made to give to staff as a memento of the anniversary.”
The original painting can be viewed at the visitor centre, which is open from Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm.
All plant tours will require advanced booking. Please call Donna Diamond on 01524 868451 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
A collection of Patricia’s other works can be found at Arteria with Gallery 23.
