Lancashire has a new director of public health.
Dr Sakthi Karunanithi, who will take up the role from Monday, November 4, will develop a public health policy, commission services to deal with smoking and alcohol abuse and improve access to health care among other targets.
A qualified doctor of more than 13 years, Dr Karunanithi said: “It’s a privilege to serve the people of Lancashire. I am looking forward to developing Lancashire as the healthiest place it can be in which to be born, live, work and retire.”
He will also be a member of the Lancashire Health and Wellbeing Board to help ensure the county’s health organisations work together.
