The MP for Morecambe and Lunesdale has welcomed a proposal for a Morecambe Bay “super hospital”.
David Morris said an idea to put services in North Lancashire and South Cumbria into one single large hospital was a good one “on paper”.
But Mr Morris stressed the idea, which came out of a review of local health services, was at a very early stage and that the Royal Lancaster Infirmary A&E department would not be closing.
“A super A&E at the side of the motorway at Carnforth, I think that would be a marvellous idea,” said Mr Morris. “But would it work? I think it will only be a viable option once the link road is built as ambulances would be able to get there quicker than they can now through Lancaster. If the infrastructure is there then yes, but I think we’re talking 10 years from now.”
Mr Morris today put a Parliamentary question to the Department of Health asking for the latest on the proposal.
