University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust are asking trust members to put themselves forward to serve on the trust’s governing body.

Nominations opened on July 20 for elections to the Council of Governors – with seven seats up for election.

The trust has a total of 30 governors; six staff governors and 17 public governors, who are voted for by members of their constituencies, and seven partner governors appointed by organisations who work with the trust.

The governor positions up for election include two public governors from the South Lakeland and North Cumbria constituency, two public governors from the Barrow and West Cumbria constituency and three staff governors.

To be eligible to stand for election, a nominee must be a member of the trust from the constituency they are standing for, have no prior convictions, and must not be a Governor of another Foundation Trust.

The closing date for nominations is August 4 and voting packs to those members eligible will be dispatched on Monday 24 August 2015. The election will close on September 14 with the results announced on September 15.

Pearse Butler, UHMBT chair, said: “Our governors provide us with an additional layer of scrutiny to ensure that decisions taken by the executives and the board result in improved care for patients.

“We want people to take up the challenge to help us continue to drive forward the improvements to ensure we continue to make a difference to patients across our area.
