Knighthood for LRGS old boy

A former LRGS pupil was awarded a knighthood in the New Year Honours.

Prof Peter Ratcliffe, who is head of the Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Oxford, attended Lancaster Royal Grammar School between 1965 and 1971, and prior to that, went to primary school in Carnforth.

He received the honour for services to clinical medicine.

Meanwhile, Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, Lt Col George Maund, was awarded the OBE in the New Year Honours.

Diane Duke, of Lancaster, Private Secretary to Princess Alexandra, was appointed a Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order.
