AROUND 200 hospital employees have registered interest in a national resignation scheme, being offered by the trust which runs the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.
The Mutually Agreed Resignation Scheme (MARS) gives staff at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBFT) the chance to leave their position voluntarily, with a one-off payment of up to 12 months’ salary.
This will help the trust, which also runs Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal, and Furness General Hospital in Barrow, to save £14.7m in the current financial year.
The scheme closed to employees yesterday, Wednesday, and applications will be assessed by senior doctors and executive directors.
