Girl and dog rescued from mud

Morecambe Coastguard have issued a warning after a girl and her pet dog had to be rescued when they became stuck in mud on Morecambe beach.

The coastguard team were called out to a report of a young girl and dog stuck in mud by the Battery car park on saturday evening.

A three man team was deployed to assess the situation. The girl was found to only be stuck ankle deep and the team was able to lift her out from safe hard sand with ease.

She was then checked over by an ambulance at the scene. Both the girl and her dog were found to be fine, albeit a bit shaken.

A spokesman for the coastguard said: “At this time of year it is easy for children to get caught out on the beach. Thankfully on this occasion the girl knew to dial 999 and ask for coastguard and we were able to mobilise and extract her quickly.”
