Members of Friends of Williamson Park say they are delighted to receive the grant from Lancashire Environmental Fund.

The grant will be matched by Lancaster City Council funding to allow a complete renewal of the current children’s play area and the first phase of developing an exciting new natural challenge and activity area for older children.

The new play areas will be installed in Spring 2016.

Will Griffith, park manager said: “This is fantastic news – our play area has been so heavily used by thousands of children who visit every year that it is wearing out even though it is only eight-years-old.

“The Friends have done really well to raise funding yet again.”

Katharine Bradshaw, chair of the friends, said: “People are looking forward to seeing some new, more natural play equipment.”

Members will be involved in clearing the former play area and improving paths.
