Fun day helps keep vital blood bikes service on the road

A family fun day at Lancaster Brewery raised more than £1,100 to help keep the North West Blood Bikes on the road.

The event also helped raise awareness of the work carried out by the team.

The team of volunteers provide an out of hurs motorcycle delivery service which supports the NHS. They also provide an emergency service with specially equipped liveried motorcycles.

To date the team has handled more than 24,000 call outs in the 48 months they have been running and the numbers are ever increasing.

Without the income from fundraising activities and generous donations they would not be able to do it.

The fun day was well attended despite the heavy rain later in the day. On arrival at the Brewery visitors were greeted by Sam and Ebony – two of the fleet liveried bikes – and children queued to have their photos taken and work the emergency lights and sirens.

Next to the fleet bikes was a motorcycle display and show.

Children were also able to enjoy a treasure hunt in the wooded area next to the brewery where they had to find 10 items carried on bikes for the hospitals they serve.

Other attractions included face painting, bouncy castle, mini manicures and temporary tattoos. Entertainment in the bar was provided by The Good Souls, Nigel Parrish The Singing Bloodbiker, busker Dave Barton and Ed the Entertainer from Wales!

It is hoped the event will have raised around £1,130 once donations and merchandise sales have been collected.
