Abbeyfield House will once again be opening their doors to older people who would enjoy some company over the festive period.
Between December 24 and January 4, 120 Abbeyfield Houses will be offering the elderly free Christmas dinners and overnight stays.
According to research commissioned by Abbeyfield from YouGov, over 700,000 people do not expect to have a Christmas meal with all the trimmings, and most recent figures show that over 500,000 over 65s in the UK said that they spent Christmas Day alone.
Abbeyfield Society’s Chief Executive Paul Allen said: “We invited hundreds of people up and down the UK into our houses last year over the Christmas period.
“It was a joy for Abbeyfield to celebrate Christmas with them and I know that our residents really enjoyed it.”
The two nearest Abbeyfield Houses in this area, Bolton Lodge at Carnforth and Abbeyfield House at Garstang, both offer the elderly home-cooked meals together every day, and boast activities such as coffee mornings and energetic exercise classes.
Paul added: “We hope even more people will join us this year. Christmas is for sharing and that’s what we are determined to do.”
