Former Green Party leader comes to Lancaster

Former Green Party leader Natalie Bennett is back in Lancaster again today, Thursday November 3, to discuss the shale gas industry, green energy and women in leadership roles.

Tonight, she will be speaking at a collaborative event between Lancaster University Politics Society and Lancaster University Young Greens, to discuss the shale gas industry, green energy and her view on fair public administration.

On October 6 this year, the government overruled Lancashire County Councillors and approved Cuadrilla’s plans to explore for shale gas in Lancashire.

Ms Bennett said: “Decisions about energy policy made today will affect the health, and indeed security, of future generations, so I am delighted that groups at the university are taking a lead on hosting a public discussion.”

Before speaking at the university she will be meeting with a group of women from Lancaster to talk about women in leadership roles - focusing on overcoming the challenges and barriers that women face when in the public eye.

She will also be meeting with Xeina Aveyard, the Green’s candidate in the forthcoming University ward by-election.

The evening event will be at the Cavendish Colloquium at Lancaster University .Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.
