Football fans to remember Heysham man after tragedy

Lee Westbury from Heysham, who has died aged 29, was a huge Manchester City supporter and travelled all over Europe to watch them play.

Lee’s family and friends will be at the Etihad Stadium for City’s game with Liverpool this Saturday and want to organise a minute’s applause in Lee’s memory – fittingly in the 29th minute.

His friend Paul Noon Jnr posted on Facebook: “He was a brilliant mate and a fantastic dad to his boys.

“What I would like all City fans to do please is on the 29th minute of the game on Saturday against Liverpool join me and his friends and family in a minute of applause.”

The post has been shared on football forums with many supporters saying they will join in the tribute to Lee.

Another City supporter from Morecambe has made a special flag in tribute to Lee to unfurl at the game.

Morecambe FC fans also applauded in Lee’s memory in the 29th minute during Tuesday night’s match with Dagenham and Redbridge.

Lee was found dead on the M6 in the early hours of Saturday. It is thought that he jumped from the Hampson Road bridge at Galgate at about 2.45am. Police are appealing for witnesses.

Road Policing Sgt James Power said: “This is an extremely sad and tragic accident and my condolences go out to the family.

“I would appeal for anyone who may have seen this incident or who saw the man beforehand to get in touch with us.”
