Between Monday May 30 and Friday June 3, police will be focusing on labour exploitation at these ‘hotspot’ areas of business.

It’s estimated that 30 million people around the world are affected by modern slavery and it’s not something confined to history, it is still happening today, and it’s happening in Lancashire.

Police are continually working to identify ‘hotspot’ areas of business that tend to attract traffickers and by using more intelligence led information can detect the organised crime groups (OCGs) who are exploiting vulnerable people.

Already this year officers have helped to safeguard potential victims helping some to return to their home countries and linking others with charities to support them in the UK. In February three men were convicted of the trafficking, prostitution and rape of two 18 year old Romanian girls who had been brought to Preston and forced into sexual exploitation. The men are now serving a total of 53 years in prison following their sentencing in March.
