A spokesman for Bay Cat Rescue said: “Although skinny and a bit fragile, she is fine and well.

“She has been fully checked over by our vet and been scanned for a microchip.

‘Sooty’ has now been reunited with her elated family.

“Sooty’s owners neighbours saw her being picked up and stolen from the street on October 5.

“She had been left at the other side of the River Lune and couldn’t find her way home.

“Thanks to her owners having her microchipped, we were able to return nine month old Sooty back to her family.”
