Jen says: “For our anniversary last year we decided to go away to Olhas D’Agua in Portugal, as this is one of my favourite places.

“We went for a long weekend and on the anniversary day itself we were going to my favourite restaurant for dinner.

“We decided to do gifts before we went out. I had booked the holiday so told Jamie he wasn’t getting a gift, but I had in fact bought him an Emporio Armani watch. As we sat in our apartment we both produced boxes of similar size.

“He loved his watch and strangely enough inside mine was a watch too, a beautiful silver Michael Kors. I loved the watch but was perhaps a little disappointed that it wasn’t a diamond ring.”

She added: “We went out to dinner and enjoyed pizza and wine before taking a walk along the beach.

“At this point Jamie turned and asked if I wanted my other anniversary present and as I turned he was down on one knee with the ring in his hand.

“I was delighted and incredibly shocked - in the five years we had been together this was the first time Jamie had managed to fool and surprise me!”

The pair, who live in Lancaster, tied the knot at Our Lady and St Michael’s Church in Alston on October 24, followed by a reception at Barton Grange Hotel in Preston.

The tables were named after cocktails to remind guests of how the couple first met, and everyone danced the night away in complimentary flip flops.

Groomsmen were treated to Armani watches and the bridesmaids were presented with Thomas Sabo bracelets.
