HUNDREDS of children from schools across the district have defied the rain to pack the grounds of Our Lady’s Catholic College to await the arrival of the Olympic torch.
Youngsters pulled up hoods and sheltered under umbrellas and are forming a guard of honour ready for the torch’s grand entrance, while excited members of the public lined Lancaster Road.
Torch bearers preparing to carry their torches for the Lancaster legs of the relay have huddled inside the library.
One, Paul Hattersley, 44, from Torrisholme, said: “I’m very nervous but really proud and excited to be carrying the torch. It’s unbelievable.”
Paul, who will carry the torch along Parliament Street, added: “I’m hoping I won’t fall or slip over in the wet weather!”
After lunch, the torch will cross Skerton Bridge and go on to Dalton Square before travelling up South Road towards Lancaster University and then Garstang.
