You can’t beat a good rural show and Grimsargh brought out everyone’s creative best
The sun shone brightly as the entrants took along all their varied and colourful exhibits to be arranged and displayed, ready for the judges to carry out their difficult task of deciding the winners.
And the number of entries was up more than 30 per cent up on last year.

Hide AdThe children’s section greeted those entering the hall first and among them was a wonderful collection of decorated bird boxes.
The handicraft section got a great deal of attention, both from the judge and stewards and from the visitors during the afternoon. The “toothless” dragon from Phyllis Gosling brought many smiles and much admiration and won the Lightfoot Trophy for most creative handicraft.
The produce section had a jewel-coloured selection of jams and preserves and an array of cakes, biscuits, pies plus “Tea for Two” displays that would grace The Ritz.
One particular entry was both beautiful and poignant – a plate of cup cakes entered by Carole Gray, exquisitely decorated with field poppies and marked in simple lettering “1914-2014”.
