Major restoration work on a popular riverside footpath at Kirkby Lonsdale will be officially unveiled next week.

Cumbria County Council’s Countryside Access team has carried out the improvements and Coun Keith Little, the authority’s cabinet member for highways, will cut a ribbon to mark the occasion on Tuesday (September 10) at 10am.

The £67,000 project has created a high-quality all-weather surface along a 1km route linking Devil’s Bridge and the town centre, which the council said would provide vastly improved access for wheelchair users and pushchairs, while protecting the path from future damage by the River Lune.

Representatives from the Underley Estate, Kirkby Lonsdale Town Council, Friends of the Lake District, South Lakeland District Council and Cumbria Waste Management Environment Trust have been invited to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
