Pooling our resources helps rescue dog Layla find a home

Layla the abused and abandoned dog has been rehomomed after receiving hydrotherapy treatment to treat a leg imjury

Layla, a small Staffordshire Bull Terrier, was taken in by the Preston and District RSPCA after being abused.

While she was there, staff noticed that Layla had a problem with her legs, causing her distress and to walk with a limp.

The vet recommended hydrotherapy, but this looked impossible as the charity has few funds to pay for such treatments.

This changed thanks to Sarah Poulton, Myerscough College’s canine hydrotherapist, who came to the rescue by offering to treat Layla, pictured, for free.

As a result, Layla was taken to the college by staff once or twice a week for treatment in its state-of-the-art canine health studio. There, Layla used a hydrotherapy treadmill to help with pain management, functional ability and fitness.

Eventually, both Layla and her brother, who was also rescued by the charity, were signed over for rehoming and within a month both found new homes.

A spokesperson at the RSCPA, based at Slack Cottage, Longridge Road, Preston, said: “The staff at the RSPCA Preston just wanted to take this opportunity to say a great big thank you to Sarah and everyone at Myerscough College who made this happen.

“The hydrotherapy did Layla the world of good, and it couldn’t have happened without the generosity of the college.’’
