Tracking travel exploits of mini scarecrows

Children at Wray-with-Botton Primary School have bneen getting ready for this year’s Scarecrow Festival by making their own mini scarecrows and tracking their travel around the world.

The school has set up a Facebook page and so far the children have discovered that some of their mini scarecrows from previous years have made their home in Portugal, Gibraltar, Cyprus, New Jersey and Kent.

The children are then marking up a map in school.

Wray Scarecrow Festival starts this Saturday, April 25 with a 10km road race, and finishes on Monday May 4 with a Fair and Fell race.

The children’s mini scarecrows will be on sale every day on the main street, and the children will be Maypole dancing outside the school every day at 1.30pm.

Refreshments are available every day in the village institute.

Other events going on during the week are:

Sunday April 26: Car boot sale from 8am

Thursday April 30: Classic bikes at the tea rooms, 7pm

Friday May 1: Giant scarecrow parade, 7pm

Saturday May 2: Vintage market and classic vehicles from 10am.
