Moorside Primary School pupil Dasha Bogolyubova proudly received an award for writing poetry in French.
The 10-year-old was awarded in the Mother Tongue Other Tongue poetry competition at a ceremony at Manchester Metropolitan University.
The competition was open to children aged eight to 18 to write a poem in a language they are studying at school.
Nadia Waller-Sargent, French teacher at Moorside, said: “I was very impressed with the poems submitted by our Year 5 pupils who were clearly enthused by this challenge.
“We were delighted to hear that Dasha’s poem received a Highly Commended Award in the Years 4 - 6 category.”
Dasha received her award from novelist and scriptwriter Qaisra Shahraz.
