Twins Laura and Katie Hall are the best of friends and have always had similar interests.
Now that closeness has extended to their choice of future career, as they will soon be starting their nursing degree studies together at the University of Cumbria in Lancaster.
Katie and Laura come from Poulton-le-Fylde and recently completed their A-level studies at Blackpool and The Fylde College.
Laura said: “Although we were in different classes, we studied very similar subjects at both GCSE and A-level and have always spent a lot of time together outside of school and college.
“I was a cadet nurse at college and took part in placements both within the hospital and in the community, working alongside the district nurses.
“Knowing that I had made a difference to individual lives when I was working on the wards was the best feeling in the world. I am really looking forward to getting out on placement again, where I will be able to practice all the new skills I’ve learned at university.”
Katie said: “I have always wanted to pursue a career in the medical field; I knew this from an early age, however it took me until I was 16 to finally realise that adult nursing seemed the right choice for me.
“I have been volunteering regularly at Trinity Hospice and found the nurses so passionate about their patients. Being a volunteer there was inspiring and it helped me choose to study for a nursing degree.”
The twins will turn 19 soon after arriving at university this month, although Laura is quick to point out that she is six minutes older than Katie!
They are pleased that studying at the University of Cumbria will allow them to complete their chosen course locally.
Katie added: “We’ve both passed our driving tests and have a shared car, so this way we can still enjoy the home life with unlimited support from our family, whilst studying nearby in Lancaster.”
