Many major rail routes are affected including the London to Scotland West Coast main line.

No Virgin trains or London Midland trains will run in or out of London’s Euston station between Friday and Monday.

The train operator has said the reason why they do work during public holidays is because the railway is “relatively quiet” and the “inevitable” disruption affects fewer people.

Network Rail insist work will allow more trains to run at higher speeds and will also improve the reliability of the network.
