A WOMAN has told of her shock after the mummified body of a “glamorous” former school friend from Torrisholme was found in an apartment in Italy.

Pamela Duff could not believe it when she heard about the death of Susan Mount, a former classmate at Lancaster Girls Grammar School from 1962-67.

The body of Miss Mount, 61, was discovered earlier this month, after neighbours complained of a smell coming from her studio apartment in Tribiano, a small village near Milan.

She had not been seen since early August.

Her best friend is said to have reported her disappearance to police in October.

Mrs Duff, 60, who lives in Scotforth, said: “We were in the same class and I remember that Susan used to live on Low Lane in Torrisholme, just opposite the primary school. I used to go to her house.

“It was quite a shock to find out what had happened to her, and it is sad that she could have been dead for so long before she was found.

“I knew her quite well at the time.

“We used to meet up after I had been to the Trinity Methodist Church in the West End of Morecambe on a Sunday.

“We would walk along the prom and sometimes go to the cinema together.”
