David Cameron visits Heysham to M6 link road site

The Prime Minister and the Chancellor of the Exchequer visited the site of the Heysham to M6 link road this afternoon.

David Cameron and George Osborne toured around the Costain base at Caton Road in Lancaster.

They were joined by David Morris, Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Morecambe and Lunesdale.

Costain are building the road to join the Heysham bypass with Junction 34 of the M6.

Mr Cameron and Mr Osborne’s visit comes just six days before the General Election.

During his visit the Prime Minister assured the future of the Royal Lancaster Infirmary was safe and secure.

He said: “We will spend more on our NHS every year in the next parliament, as we have in the last parliament.

“What Labour are doing is just scaremongering, they are simply trying to frighten people because they have got nothing positive to say.

“The hospitals here are secure and safe and are being improved under this government.

“There is no question over its future.”

The Prime Minister also said local councils need to continue to work together for better frontline services.

He said: “What we need to see is local councils continuing to work together so they share back officer services and management teams, financial management to make sure the money keeps going through to the frontline.

“The key to all this is a strong economy, here in the north west of our country we have 160,000 more people in work.

“I’m going to be spending the next six days campaigning for an overall majority, the best thing we can do is have a strong, clear government.”
