A cyclist required surgery after being knocked off his bike by a car which failed to stop in Heysham.

The man was hit by a red Vauxhall Corsa which police believe had swerved to avoid an overtaking car on the other side of Heysham Road.

In doing so, the driver clipped the cyclist’s handlebars, causing him to fall from the bike, seriously injuring his leg, which needed surgical treatment.

Lancashire Police have asked anyone who saw the accident, at around 6.30pm on September 19, to get in touch with officers.

PC Byrony Fell said: “I am keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at the time and may have witnessed what happened to contact police.

“The driver may not have known that they caused the cyclist to fall so I would urge that driver, if you recognise that to be you, to come forward and contact us.”

Information can be passed to Lancashire Police on 101, quoting the incident log number LC-20130921-0464.
