The victim, who was named as Miss Emma Jones from Fleetwood, died after suffering serious leg injuries during the accident, which happened on July 3 last year.

Mrs Salisbury’s Vauxhall Corsa collided with the young woman on Halton Road close to the Bay Gateway in Lancaster, shortly before 10am

The motorist, who was travelling from Halton in the direction of Lancaster, turned right across the path of the 19-year-old’s Honda moped, travelling in the opposite direction.

Miss Jones then collided with the rear of the Corsa and was forced onto the opposite side of the road, where she also collided with a Volkswagen Up car.

She was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital in a critical condition, but tragically passed away.

Salisbury was treated for whiplash.

The road was closed for three hours as officers from Lancashire’s Road Policing Unit launched an accident investigation.

Police later appealed for witnesses.

The motorist had previously appeared before Preston magistrates who deemed their powers insufficient to deal with her and committed the case to the higher court.
