A woman was sexually assaulted on a Lancaster street after she walked home from a night out.

Police have released an e-fit image of an Eastern European man they want to speak to after the alleged attack in the early hours of Monday, December 16.

A 25-year-old woman was approached by a man as she walked along St Peters Road between 2am and 3am.

Her attacker asked her for a cigarette before grabbing her around her hips, pushing her to the floor and sexually touching her over her clothing, detectives said.

The victim screamed and fought off her attacker.

DC Rachel Killinger, from Lancaster’s Public Protection Unit, said: “This was obviously a very distressing incident for the victim but fortunately she was not hurt.

“I would appeal to anybody that recognises this man or with any information that could assist us with our investigation to contact us on 101.”

The offender is described as being between 25 and 32 with short blond hair, dark eyes and a pointed nose. He was wearing a grey baggy hoody and spoke with an Eastern European accent.

Police said the attack was rare and they were doing all they could to find the culprit.
