Travel agent from Lancaster stole almost £50,000 from store

A Lancaster woman has admitted stealing almost £50,000 from a travel company where she was employed as assistant manager.

Layla Hayhurst did not audit a £3.95 foreign currency buy-back guarantee on 12,461 separate occasions while working at the Tui store in Kendal, but issued the refund which she then claimed.

The 30-year-old, of Siding Close, Lancaster, admitted theft at an earlier hearing at Carlisle Crown Court.

She received a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, at Carlisle Crown Court for the theft over three years at TUI's branch in Highgate, Kendal.

She also was given 200 hours unpaid work and a three-month night-time curfew.
