Speeding motorist gets suspended prison sentence

A MOTORIST, who knocked down an 87-year-old man while speeding through Milnthorpe, has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Luke Anthony Barlow, 22, of Jesson Way, Carnforth, was driving his father’s Mercedes C320 when he hit Paul Brooks, who had just got off a coach in Beetham Road, Milnthorpe, on October 16, 2010.

Mr Brooks suffered a broken ankle.

Barlow pleaded guilty to dangerous driving at Carlisle Crown Court on August 25.

He was given a six-month prison sentence, suspended for a year, ordered to do 250 hours’ unpaid community work and made to pay £1,500 costs. He was also banned from driving for two years.
