A 90-year-old man was taken to hospital with a head wound after a crash involving two cars.

Firefighters were called to the incident, at the junction of Little Fell Lane and Wyresdale Road in Quernmore, near Lancaster, at around 10.50am on Wednesday, after reports a man was trapped in a car.

They said the pensioner was driving a Ford Fiesta, which was in a collision with a Land Rover type 4x4 vehicle, being driven by a man believed to be in his 50s.

The driver of the 4x4 was unharmed.

John Holmes, watch manager, said: “We helped the paramedics get the man out of the car from the opposite side of the vehicle. One side was smashed in slightly.

“He got out of the car and we sat him on a stretcher. He had a bump on his head and a bit of blood but nothing too serious.

“He was taken to Royal Lancaster Infirmary for a check-up.”

Officer Holmes said the cause of the accident was under police investigation.
